Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular Full Time Specialist, Business Continuity to join our dynamic Enterprise Risk Management team.
 

Reporting to the Associate Director, Business Continuity, the Business Continuity Specialist plays a crucial role in developing, implementing, maintaining, and improving Canadian Blood Services’ Business Continuity program. The specialist serves as a strategic partner to the business, with an objective of maturing the organization’s resiliency and preparedness and enhancing its ability to effectively navigate through disruptions. The specialist collaborates with the business to assess risks and impact, develop strategies, and implement solutions that promote the continuity of critical operations.

 

Formula For Success

  • Drawing on your knowledge and experience in Business Continuity principles, you will drive the development, implementation, maintenance, and improvement of the Business Continuity Program across the organization.
  • Utilizing your strong leadership skills, you will lead projects that assist the organization in consistently identifying threats and vulnerabilities, and work towards the development of resiliency strategies to support continuity of operations.
  • Leveraging your expertise, you will design and execute training initiatives aimed at raising awareness of resiliency and preparedness principles and practices across the organization, including the creation of training materials and facilitating training sessions.
  • You will support the organization in effectively navigating through incidents and disruptions through maintaining the Incident Management Plan and supporting coordination of incident management and response activities.
  • Using your organizational skills, you will lead the planning and execution of testing and exercising initiatives to evaluate and enhance resiliency and preparedness across the organization.
  • Your superior analytical and technical skills will be used to support the implementation of program tools and systems. 
  • Harnessing your analytical and technical skills, you will support the implementation of program tools and systems. 
  • Your communication skills will be used in ensuring that employees are aware of and comply with Canadian Blood Services’ Corporate Health and Safety Policies. 

 

Desired Education and Skills 
 

  • Completion of secondary education, preferably a university degree in a related field. 
  • 5-6 years of relevant experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of supply chain, manufacturing or healthcare industry concepts and issues is preferred.
  • Knowledge of project management principles is an asset.
  • General management and leadership experience.
  • Certifications or training in Business Continuity/Incident Management, such as Incident Command System (ICS), Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) Certificate of the Business Continuity Institute (CBCI) or Associate Business Continuity Professional (ABCP) would be an asset.
  • Experience implementing or maintaining business continuity software is an asset.

What You Can Expect

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at one of Canadian Blood Services Production sites (Ottawa, Brampton, Calgary, Edmonton, St. John's, Dartmouth, Winnipeg) at least 40% of the time/2 days of the week.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
