About the role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular Full-Time Specialist, Compensation to join our dynamic Total Rewards team in our People, Culture and Performance division in Ottawa, Ontario.
Our Total Rewards team designs and manages programs and practices that reflect and reinforce our organization's commitment to attracting, motivating, and retaining talented, engaged, and productive employees.
Reporting to the Associate Director, Total Rewards, you will play a significant role in planning, designing, managing, communicating and implementing effective compensation programs, including salary structures, performance pay, job evaluation and related projects and policies. Your focus is on supporting the Total Rewards needs of the business that support our Employee Value Proposition by providing solutions to attract, retain, motivate and engage employees, and promote organization citizenship among employees.
Formula for success
- Leveraging your skills in compensation design and market analysis, you will develop and implement new, or improvements to existing compensation programs, processes and practices by conducting research, analyzing trends and best practices, and customizing innovative solutions to the culture and requirements at Canadian Blood Services to achieve strategic business objectives.
- Utilizing your expertise in operational execution and compensation administration, you will carry out and manage the on-going day-to-day operations of the Total Rewards core functions of compensation and job evaluation.
- Drawing on your knowledge of compensation legislation and plan design, you will provide subject matter and specialist advice and guidance, investigate and resolve various issues that arise, and interpret plan requirements and regulations.
- Employing your analytical skills and understanding of job architecture, you will analyze and categorize job positions to determine appropriate compensation levels.
- Harnessing your market research and benchmarking experience, you will perform salary surveys and analyze market trends to ensure competitive pay rates and total compensation offerings aligned with Canadian Blood Services’ compensation philosophy and total rewards strategy.
- Applying your financial acumen, you will coordinate financial monitoring and review of plans and recommend modifications and improvements.
- Integrating your knowledge of compliance and employment legislation, you will ensure policies and practices adhere to legislative requirements, ensuring all compensation practices comply with legal and regulatory requirements (i.e., pay equity and pay transparency).
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams and stakeholders, you will proactively collaborate with members of the Talent Programs team and other areas of People, Culture and Performance, engaging with other divisions and cross-functional working groups/project teams in the planning and delivery of projects and programs to identify and respond to business needs and requirements, and to address implementation issues that arise.
Desired education and skills
- A University degree in Business Administration, Human Resources or related field.
- A minimum of four years of progressive experience in Human Resources including planning, implementing and maintaining large-scale HR programs. A minimum of two years supporting Compensation and Job Evaluation programs.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, design, lead and manage complex Compensation initiatives/projects.
- A thorough understanding of Total Rewards practices as well as subject matter expertise in compensation and job evaluation and knowledge of related legislative requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to analyze complex data sets and make informed decisions and recommendations.
- Demonstrated strong oral, written and presentation skills in English are essential to clearly convey compensation policies and changes to employees and management.
- Strong business acumen and influencing skills and the ability to prioritize business requirements appropriately through a collaborative partnership approach.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, and in particular Microsoft Excel.
- Proven ability to effectively work with both internal and external customers and with Third Party Service Providers.

What you can expect
- This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at 1800 Alta Vista Drive, Ottawa, Ontario, at least 40% of the time/2 days of the week.
- You will work Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day.
