About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular full-time Specialist - Physical Security & Compliance to join our dynamic Enterprise Facilities team.

 

The Specialist – Physical Security & Compliance is responsible for the execution and technical delivery of physical security operations at the site and system level, ensuring effective protection of people, assets, and facilities in alignment with established governance.

 

This role implements, maintains, and optimizes access control, video surveillance, guarding operations, and Fire & Life Safety activities while serving as a subject matter expert for Electronic Physical Access Control System and site security risks. Key results include maintaining accurate and reliable security systems, supporting incident response and remediation, strengthening site security posture through continuous improvement, and ensuring compliance through documentation, change management, and training support. 

Formula for success

 

  • Drawing from your continuous improvement mindset , you will administer, maintain, and continuously improve the Electronic Physical Access Control System by managing access levels, cardholder data, and system configurations; executing access changes; supporting upgrades and projects; monitoring system health; resolving escalations; and ensuring compliance through regular audits and access reviews. 
  • Leveraging your Corporate Security experience, you will support daily physical security operations by coordinating guard services, maintaining and implementing post orders, assisting with onboarding and scope changes, enhancing site security measures based on risk, and resolving operational issues in collaboration with site and facilities teams.
  • You will participate in physical security incident reviews by assessing higher‑risk events, identifying root causes and control gaps, supporting video analysis, recommending corrective actions, and ensuring follow‑up items are tracked through to resolution.
  • Using your attention to detail skills,  you will support the execution of security improvement initiatives by coordinating follow‑ups from assessments and audits, implementing site‑level upgrades and mitigation actions, evaluating risks from operational or facility changes, and recommending solutions in collaboration with management and facilities leadership.
  • You will assist in the execution of Fire & Life Safety (FLS) requirements by assisting with audits and inspections, coordinating remediation of findings, maintaining awareness of site risks, and partnering with facilities teams to implement corrective actions.
  • You will provide technical and operational support for physical security policies, standards, and change management by contributing to documentation and work instructions, ensuring alignment with requirements, maintaining audit‑ready records, assessing impacts of system or process changes, and engaging stakeholders to support effective adoption.
  • Honing on your design skills, you will develop and maintain training materials and LMS content for access control systems and security processes while supporting knowledge transfer to ensure consistent and compliant execution.

Desired education and skills

 

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Security Management, Risk Management, Facilities Management, or related field.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in Corporate Security Management.
  • Experience in Facility Management an asset.
  • Experience with Electronic Physical Access Control Systems and SAP Plant Maintenance an asset.
  • Training or demonstrated familiarity with physical security operations, guarding operations, incident management and security reviews required.
  • Ability to operate independently while following established governance and procedures.
  • Ability to interpret policy and translate requirements into operational execution.

What you can expect

 

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at Canadian Blood Services location 40 % of the time/days of the week.
  • Shift/hours - Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day.
  • Travel requirements:  occasional travel required for training purposes, or onsite meetings.
  • Physical requirements - ability to lift weight up to 10 kg (22 lbs.).
