Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

About the role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular full-time Supervisor, Materials Management to join our dynamic Procurement team in our Finance and Corporate Services division.


The Procurement team is responsible for is driving strategic procurement practices throughout Canadian Blood Services. This means providing strategic procurement support to the organization through the development of requests for proposals, contract negotiations and supplier qualifications for critical supplies and services. The Procurement team works to continuously enhance our procurement policies and procedures, and work diligently to help manage our relationships with our suppliers.


Formula for success

  • Leveraging your leadership skills, you will oversee daily operations of Buyer/Planners, ensuring effective communication and driving high performance across teams and departments.
  • Harnessing your expertise in team development, you will conduct performance reviews, coordinate training, and guide the team through advanced planning strategies to enhance their skills.
  • Utilizing your procurement knowledge, you will review and approve Purchase Orders, streamline supplier processes, and collaborate on cost-reduction strategies to mitigate supply chain risks.
  • Drawing on your supplier management skills, you will assist in supplier evaluations, support smooth transitions, and participate in supplier scorecard meetings to ensure performance excellence.
  • Driving process improvements, you will engage in cross-functional initiatives to enhance the procure-to-pay cycle, explore new planning methods, and integrate more efficient processes.
  • Applying your troubleshooting expertise, you will resolve procurement and materials management issues, identifying corrective actions and supporting process improvements.
  • Promoting continuous improvement, you will drive initiatives that validate ideas and ensure the successful implementation of changes to improve departmental performance.
  • Capitalizing on your expertise in reporting and documentation, you will assist in creating purchasing documents, analyzing supply chain challenges, and addressing issues related to obsolete or slow-moving inventory.

 

Desired education and skills

  • Post-secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, preferably a Community College diploma in Business Administration or Materials Management. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
  • A minimum of five years of procurement experience including a minimum of three years supervisory experience and inventory management in an ERP environment, preferably in a cGMP or other regulated environment.
  • Certified Supply Chain Management Professional (CSCMP.) and/or Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) designation are assets.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are essential.
  • Excellent problem solving and decision-making ability.
  • Computer skills in MS Word and Excel are required.
  • Organizational and negotiation skills are required.
  • Project management skills and computer experience with SAP Concur software.

What you can expect 

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at a Canadian Blood Services location 40% of the time/2 days of the week. 
  • You will work Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day.  
  • If you are located outside of Ottawa, you may be expected to travel to our office location in Ottawa – 2540 Lancaster Rd, quarterly for in-person team meetings when required.
