About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary Full-time Team Lead, Technical Field Support  to join our dynamic IT Infrastructure Operations and Delivery team.

 
The  IT Infrastructure Operations & Delivery team is responsible for managing and maintaining Canadian Blood Services’ IT infrastructure to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of its technology systems.

Reporting to the Manager, IT Field Support, you will be responsible for the direct and indirect supervision of 15 employees across Canadian Blood Services sites nationwide. You will ensure the smooth operation of all IT equipment at these sites, supporting the collection of blood and blood products. 

 

Formula for success

  • Utilizing your skills in people leadership and workforce coordination, you will lead and support a distributed team of 15 Field Support employees across multiple CBS sites by providing coaching, mentoring, scheduling, performance management, and training to ensure consistent, high-quality service delivery.
  • Drawing on your technical expertise in IT infrastructure and systems support, you will ensure the reliable daily operation of all IT equipment and systems at sites involved in blood and product collection, including network, telephony, hardware, software, and office automation tools.
  • Serving as a central point of contact, and leveraging your communication and stakeholder management skills, you will facilitate alignment between regional site staff and Head Office IT teams to support effective information flow, technology rollouts, and issue resolution.
  • Employing your advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, you will provide senior-level technical support by resolving second-level support tickets, identifying root causes, and coordinating with third-party vendors and service providers to restore services efficiently.
  • Supporting the Project Management Office, and leveraging your project coordination and planning skills, you will help plan, schedule, and execute national IT projects at CBS sites while participating in national-level project meetings.
  • Evaluating site-level business processes, and leveraging your analytical and process improvement skills, you will identify opportunities for improvement and collaborate with Head Office to design, develop, and implement technical enhancements, including contributing to business case development.
  • Responding to high-priority incidents, and leveraging your incident management and cross-functional collaboration skills, you will coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure timely resolution while providing ongoing communication to stakeholders.


Desired education and skills

  • Graduate from a recognized post-secondary institution in information technology or a related field.
  • Proven success managing staff across multiple locations and driving high performance.
  • Strong ability to strategically plan and oversee tasks, personnel, vendors, and budgets with minimal supervision.
  • A decade of experience delivering customer support and overseeing vendor relationships in an operational setting.
  • Completion of a recognized post‑secondary program in Information Technology or a related discipline.
  • Over ten years of experience supporting and maintaining LAN/WAN infrastructure, telephony systems, reprographics equipment, and networked, enterprise, and standalone computer systems.
  • Significant background in computer services or technical support within a regulated environment.
  • Demonstrated experience developing comprehensive work instructions, operating procedures, business cases, and project documentation.
  • Exceptional organizational and multitasking abilities, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Capable of working independently, remotely, and collaboratively within a team.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to engage professionals at all organizational levels.

What you can expect

  • This role will work in an onsite environment with requirements to be onsite at a Canadian Blood Services location 5 days a week.
  • You will work Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day.  
  • Work in a busy environment with competing deadlines, shifting priorities, and frequent short- or long-term travel.
  • Maintain attention to detail while managing multiple tasks and deadlines under pressure.
