Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary Full-time Training Design and Support Specialist to join our dynamic Quality Management System team.


The Quality Management System (QMS) team is responsible for leading the advancement and maturation of our quality management system. It empowers the organization by delivering effective, efficient, and timely services, along with subject-matter expertise in quality and regulatory matters.


Under the direction of the Manager, Training Design and Support Services, the Support Specialist provides training services to business units related to the performance of training needs analysis, and the design and development of training materials and courses that meet defined learning objectives and result in a positive learner experience. Additionally, the Support Specialist supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the national training management process.


Formula for success

  • Collaborating with training course owners, subject matter experts, and management to conduct training needs analyses to define instructional, educational, and performance objectives.
  • Develop effective and engaging training materials/courses that meet defined learning objectives, for both technical processes and corporate programs.
  • Engaging with stakeholders and learners to assess the effectiveness of training materials/courses.
  • Staying informed of industry best practices related to adult learning principles, training design and development, and training management processes to facilitate continuous improvement.
  • Facilitating communities of practice for training developers to strengthen the quality of training materials and courses.  
  • Supporting course owners, you will provide the necessary information for submitting work orders to the LMS administration team.
  • Verifying that all process documentation and training materials meet required standards to ensure compliance with Canadian Blood Services’ quality management system and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other tasks as required.

 

Desired education and skills

  • Post-secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, or equivalent professional education, certification (ex. Certified Training and Development Professional) and experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience in instructional design, education program development, or training material development.
  • Proven experience successfully interacting and building credibility with senior managers and other organizational groups 
  • Knowledge of core quality management system processes, including training management, and experience in a regulated environment would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of adult training and education. 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop eLearning modules using the Articulate 360 suite of products (samples required); working knowledge of Adobe Creative cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere); knowledge of video production and editing; and familiarity with generative AI.
  • Familiarity with augmented and virtual reality.
  • Ability to work independently with sound judgment and understanding of when to seek direction and when to escalate

What you can expect 

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at a Canadian Blood Services location 40% of the time/2 days of the week. 
  • You will work Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day.  
  • You may be expected to travel to alternate Canadian Blood Services offices or site locations, including head office in Ottawa at 1800 Alta Vista Drive, for biannual in-person team meetings or as required.
