Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Full-time Training Development Specialist to join our dynamic Process Management team. 

The Training Development Specialist leads the development of comprehensive training strategies within Supply Chain Process Management to ensure alignment with process, learner, and organizational needs.

The Training Development Specialist partners with subject matter experts and stakeholders to lead the design, development, and improvement of high-quality instructor led and self-directed training, grounded in the expert application of adult learning principles.

The Training Development Specialist evaluates training program effectiveness through data-driven insights to inform and refine training approaches. As a strategic contributor to the broader training community at CBS, the specialist collaborates across teams to advance training practices and support a culture of continuous learning. 

Formula for success

 

  • Leveraging your training experience and collaborative approach, you will lead the development of training strategies for changes initiatives and projects, ensuring alignment with process requirements, organizational and learner needs.
  • You will lead the design, development, and maintenance of high-quality training materials that support both instructor-led and self-directed learning, including eLearning, ensuring alignment with operational goals. 
  • Drawing from your attention to detail, you will coordinate and evaluate training materials and programs to ensure effectiveness and make data-driven improvement.
  • Harnessing your interpersonal skills, you will deliver training using instructional best practices to ensure engaging and effective learning experiences, via virtual and/or in person delivery.
  • You will contribute to the advancement of training practices and organizational learning culture by actively participating in and collaborating with internal communities of practice and fellow training professionals.
     

Desired education and skills

 

  • Completion of post-secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, or equivalent professional education, certification (ex. Certified Training and Development Professional) and experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience in instructional design, education program development, or training material development.
  • Demonstrated ability in designing and developing training or educational materials for adults using various delivery methods, including e-learning.
  • Ability to effectively deliver presentations and training.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to contribute effectively in a team environment.
  • Proven ability with various software for training material development and team collaboration such as:
    • MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
    • Online meeting/desktop sharing software (ex. MS Teams, Zoom)
    • eLearning authoring tools (ex. Articulate Storyline, Rise, Captivate)
    • Learning Management System (ex. SAP SuccessFactros, Brightspace, Blackboard)
    • Screen capture software (ex. Snagit, Camtasia)
    • Graphics (ex. Visio, Paint, Illustrator)
    • Video/photo editing software (ex. Photoshop, Premiere)
    • Audio editing and voice-over software (ex. Revoicer, Speechelo, Eleven Labs)
    • Animation (ex. Vyond)

What you can expect

 

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at Canadian Blood Services location 40% of the time/days of the week.
  • Shift/hours - Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours a week, 7.5 hours a day.
  • Travel requirements - occasional travel for training.
