Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work from 67 College Street, Toronto, Ontario, based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a regular full-time Intern, Sustainability to join our dynamic Inclusion Sustainability & Engagement division in Toronto.

This division works to ensure Canadian Blood Services is a leader in inclusion, sustainability and engagement, best positioning us to be prepared for the ever changing present and future. It stewards natural intersections between our social impact and our purpose — identifying and removing barriers to inclusion and belonging within Canada’s Lifeline.

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented summer student to support the Manager of Sustainability on a variety of exciting projects. You will play a key role in advancing sustainability initiatives within the organization and will contribute to the production of the next Sustainability Report, supporting key activities listed below.


Formula for success

  • Leveraging your skills in data analysis, you will guide data leads on the completion of claim validation forms.
  • Utilizing your attention to detail, you will review completed forms to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Drawing on your knowledge of sustainability reporting, you will provide guidance on adherence to GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) standards.
  • Applying your strong editorial skills, you will review drafts and various sections of the Sustainability Report.
  • Using your analytical mindset, you will support an external audit related to select metrics.


Another key project the intern will assist with is the refresh of our Materiality Assessment, which involves:

  • Leveraging your strategic thinking, you will support the development of the refreshed Materiality Assessment framework.
  • Employing your project management skills, you will review progress and compare results across stakeholders.
  • Drawing on your analytical abilities, you will analyze data and provide insights.


Desired education and skills

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in a relevant discipline (e.g., Environmental Science, Sustainability, Business, or similar) at a recognized academic institution
  • Some experience or coursework related to data analysis, sustainability principles, and ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) reporting frameworks (e.g., GRI, SASB, IFRS)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is required
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • A passion for sustainability and environmental stewardship

 

What you can expect 

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at a Canadian Blood Services location 40% of the time/2 days of the week. 
  • You will work Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day.
