Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate will be working at one of our major site offices in Calgary (2775 116 Ave NE), Edmonton (8249 114 St NW), Vancouver (4750 Oak St) or Winnipeg (777 William Ave), and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

About the role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular full-time Associate Director, Regional Development West to join our dynamic Development and Recruitment team in our Donor Engagement and Corporate Reputation (DECR) division.
The Development and Recruitment team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by delivering products, processes and services that meet or exceed donors’ expectations in accordance with Canadian Blood Services’ Management System.
In this role, you will be responsible for leading recruitment efforts to grow and diversify a flexible, sustainable donor base. You will play a critical role in ensuring that recruitment initiatives align with the organization’s goals and values. You will work closely with peers within the division to develop a sustainable donor base and ensure a robust pipeline to support the commitment of Canada’s Lifeline to patients and registrants. You will be responsible for leading a regional team to develop, nurture, and grow the organization’s donor base in a Business-to-Business (B2B) environment. This role currently oversees Managers, Regional Development, Business Development Managers, and Community Development Managers to drive partner and group acquisition, retention, growth, and engagement.
Formula for success
- Leveraging your demonstrated knowledge and expertise, you will develop and implement strategic recruitment plans to acquire, grow and retain new groups and partners, to increase and diversify the organization’s donor base.
- Utilizing your strong organizational skills and adherence to timelines, you will set specific targets for donor acquisition, retention, and engagement, aligned with organizational goals.
- Drawing on your exceptional analytical skills, you will track data, analyze trends, and provide insights to inform team strategies.
- Harnessing your strong collaboration and interpersonal skills, you will work closely with senior leadership to ensure donor recruitment efforts align with organizational priorities and goals. Align recruitment strategies with retention efforts to create a seamless donor experience that encourages lifelong giving.
- Applying your excellent leadership and team management skills, you will lead and mentor a regional team, including:
- Regional Development Managers: Oversee existing regional and/or segment-specific donor partners and groups through targeted engagement strategies.
- Business Development Managers: Focus on identifying and securing new donor partners and groups.
- Community Development Managers: Foster loyalty through relationship building with existing groups and partners to deepen and grow engagement.
- You will be responsible for recruiting, training and developing managers to build a high-performing, results-driven teams aligned with the organization’s mission and values.
- Focusing on your exceptional communication skills, you will oversee the development and execution of outreach initiatives to attract new partners and groups.
- You will be responsible for establishing and monitoring KPIs (key performance indicators) and provide regular performance reports to the managers.
- Applying your continuous growth mindset, you will monitor and assess donor recruitment performance, adjusting strategies to optimize efforts based on data and feedback highlighting successes and areas for improvement.
- Capitalizing on your excellent relationship building skills, you will drive initiatives to retain and deepen relationships with existing partners/groups aligned with marketing and brand campaigns. Collaborate with managers to secure new partners and groups to expand and diversify the organization’s donor base.
- Using your strong attention to detail, you will manage and maintain donor data, ensuring accurate segmentation and tracking of prospects and new groups and partners within the donor management system (CRM).
- You will be responsible for fostering employee satisfaction and engagement, maintaining a visible presence to interact with teams, both in person and virtually.
Desired education and skills
- Post secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, preferably in business, marketing, communications, or a related field.
- Five plus (5+) years of experience in leadership roles focused on sales, donor engagement, retention, or growth in a nonprofit or B2B environment.
- Excellent financial, systems, and problem-solving skills are highly desirable.
- Ability to lead, motivate, and manage a donor recruitment sales team effectively.
- Comfortable with analyzing donor data to track progress, adjust strategies, and optimize efforts.
- Experience with customer relationship management (CRM) software and tracking systems. Sales Expertise/Donor Recruitment: Proven track record of generating revenue and driving growth, preferably in a nonprofit or mission-driven environment.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
