About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a regular full-time Laboratory Assistant to join our dynamic Production team in Vancouver, BC

 

The Production team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by processing whole blood collections to the final products. In this role, you will be working on the frontlines, assisting in the production of blood components that provide life-saving treatments for Canadians.

Formula for success

  • Drawing on your laboratory experience, you will be receiving, assessing and producing whole blood, apheresis platelets and plasma into requested blood components.
  • Utilizing your knowledge and understanding of blood component production, you will be assisting the laboratory manager in the development and evaluation of procedures.
  • Using your excellent organizational skills, you will be involved in the maintenance of appropriate documentation and records related to inventory in compliance with Canadian Blood Services operational procedures and work instructions.
  • Applying your ability to be proactive and ensure excellence, you will be performing routine maintenance of equipment and work areas to ensure safety and quality of blood products.

Desired education and skills

  • Completion of Grade 12 plus Laboratory Assistant Certificate and one year of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize workload and function effectively under pressure.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.

What you can expect

  • Schedule - Friday to Tuesday, 1400 to 2200. Days off are Wednesday and Thursday.
  • Shifts/hours - must be flexible to accommodate assigned shifts which are based on operational needs. Shifts may include days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
  • Physical requirements - ability to lift weight up to 10 kg (22 lbs.).
