The work of Laboratory Assistants is integral to Canadian Blood Services role as Canada’s Lifeline. In this role, you will be working on the frontlines, assisting in the production of blood components that provide life-saving treatments for Canadians.
Key responsibilities include:
- Receiving, assessing and producing whole blood, apheresis platelets and plasma into requested blood components
- Assisting the laboratory manager in the development and evaluation of procedures
- Maintenance of appropriate documentation and records related to inventory in compliance with Canadian Blood Services operational procedures and work instructions
- Performing routine maintenance of equipment and work areas to ensure safety and quality of blood products
Required Skills:
- Completion of Grade 12 plus Laboratory Assistant Certificate and one year of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- Ability to deal with others effectively
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
- Ability to organize workload and function effectively under pressure
- Ability to operate related equipment

Additional Information:
Rotation schedule - Monday to Sunday 0500-1300 or 0530-1330 or 0600-1400 or 0700-1500 or 0800-1600 or 1000-1800 or 1100-1900 or 1230-2030 or 1300-2100 or 1500-2300 or 2100-0500 or 2200-0600 or 2300-0700. Rest days: Sunday/Monday or Monday/Tuesday or Tuesday/Wednesday or Wednesday/Thursday or Thursday/Friday or Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday.
