Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular Part-time Registered Nurse to join our dynamic Donor Centre team on our Apheresis/Whole Blood, Oak St site. The work of Registered Nurses is integral to Canadian Blood Services role as Canada’s Lifeline. In this role, you will be working on assisting in the collection of blood and blood products.

 

Key responsibilities include:

 

  • Performing confidential donor screening and provides donor with information, instruction and advice on blood donation
  • Ensuring collection equipment and supplies are adequate and in good working order
  • Ensuring the safety and comfort of donor during and following collection
  • Guiding and assisting donor centre staff and volunteers performing donor and product related activities
  • Ensuring that all required documentation is carried out

 

Education, Training, and Experience:

 

  • A licensed Registered Nurse, able to practice in the province of employment
  • 1-3 years’ experience
  • Computer skills including word processing
  • Previous experience as a preceptor and/or coaching others to enhance job performance an asset
  • First Aid and CPR certification an asset
  • Previous experience in a regulatory environment an asset
  • Previous experience in a blood collection environment an asset
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered

  • Excellent communication skills both oral and in writing

Classification:  BCNU Level 3

 

Additional Information:

 

Hours of work for Apheresis could include 0745-1545 or 0900-1700 (Mondays, Saturdays and Sundays) or 1045-1845,1200-2000 or 1000-2000 on Tuesdays, Wednesday, Thursdays and Fridays. Hours of work for Whole Blood could include 1045-1845 or 1145-1900 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays, 1145-1945 or 1245-2000 on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and 0815-1615 or 0915-1630 on Saturdays.

Rest days: Sunday/Monday or Monday/Tuesday or Tuesday/Wednesday or Wednesday/Thursday or Thursday/Friday or Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday.
