Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Casual Registered Nurse to join our dynamic Donor Centre team on the Victoria Permanent and Mobiles. The work of Registered Nurses is integral to Canadian Blood Services role as Canada’s Lifeline. In this role, you will be working on assisting in the collection of blood and blood products.

 

Key responsibilities include:

 

  • Performing confidential donor screening and provides donor with information, instruction and advice on blood donation
  • Ensuring collection equipment and supplies are adequate and in good working order
  • Ensuring the safety and comfort of donor during and following collection
  • Guiding and assisting donor centre staff and volunteers performing donor and product related activities
  • Ensuring that all required documentation is carried out

 

Education, Training, and Experience:

 

  • A licensed Registered Nurse, able to practice in the province of employment
  • 1-3 years’ experience
  • Computer skills including word processing
  • Previous experience as a preceptor and/or coaching others to enhance job performance an asset
  • First Aid and CPR certification an asset
  • Previous experience in a regulatory environment an asset
  • Previous experience in a blood collection environment an asset
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered

Classification:  BCNU Level 3

 

Additional Information:

 

Shifts include a mixture of Mobile and Victoria perm site:  5.75 hrs (1245-1900), 6.75 hrs (1145-1900/1045-1800), 7.0 hrs (0845-1615/1045-1815/1100-1830/0900-1630), 7.5 hrs (0815-1615/0845-1645/1045-1845/1100-1900/0900-1700). Rest days: Sunday/Monday or Monday/Tuesday or Tuesday/Wednesday or Wednesday/Thursday or Thursday/Friday or Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday.

 

Mandatory orientation and training for approximately two and a half weeks is in Vancouver from October 3-20, all expenses are paid for.
