About the role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular Full-time Business Systems Analyst II for Diagnostic Services Solutions to join our dynamic External Customer Experience team in our Digital Solutions and Technology division.


The Diagnostic Services Solutions (DSS) team is responsible for day-to-day laboratory information system (LIS) eTraceLine software application support. This includes analyzing and defining Medical Laboratory user requirements, recommending solutions and configuring the application, testing, implementing and supporting the LIS and associated IT Business Solutions for Canadian Blood Services in collaboration with client groups and in accordance with regulatory requirements.


Reporting to the Manager, Diagnostic Services Solutions you will assist Business Systems Analysts to support a laboratory information system that meets the needs of patients who need transfusion medicine or perinatal testing. The team also manages essential software solutions and technologies for the Diagnostic Services Laboratories at Canadian Blood Services.  You will work closely with the DSS team, who are located in various provinces, to act as the interface between clients and IT teams in gathering requirements, analysis, preparation of configuration solution assessments and design specifications for the planning and delivery of projects and releases in accordance with the software lifecycle for the eTraceLine system and various interfaces. You will participate in the on-call schedule to support the laboratory users and investigate, document, and report software issues.  Additionally, you will maintain strong relationships with key business, quality, and other IT stakeholders.

Formula for success

  • Harnessing your expertise in eTraceLine within blood transfusion or perinatal testing environments, you will develop deep subject matter knowledge critical to the role.
  • Collaborating closely with members of the DSS team, you will leverage your subject matter expertise and system knowledge to assist in designing optimal LIS configurations that meet user needs while ensuring compliance with quality and regulatory standards to safeguard patient safety.
  • Utilizing your strong communication skills, you will build cooperative working relationships with client groups, team members, IT departments, and software vendors to facilitate seamless collaboration.
  • Applying your analytical abilities, you will gather, analyse, document, and clearly articulate user requirements for software solutions related to eTraceLine and associated systems.
  • Following the IT system lifecycle methodology, you will manage and document eTraceLine projects efficiently, ensuring thorough oversight throughout each stage.
  • Employing your attention to detail, you will assess software release impacts and develop and execute system test scripts alongside IQ/PQ qualifications to maintain high system integrity.
  • Demonstrating initiative and strong organizational skills, you will identify solutions for small to medium projects and deliver work activities on schedule, ensuring tasks progress within expected timelines.


Desired education and skills

  • Completion of post-secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, preferably in Information Technology/Systems or Medical Laboratory Technology certification.
  • A minimum of one to two years’ experience in transfusion medicine or perinatal laboratory testing.
  • Experience working on LIS projects or with business systems analysis, with experience working with eTraceLine preferred.
  • Experience working on projects and/or strong analytical skills are an asset.
  • Strong communication skills.

What you can expect 

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at a Canadian Blood Services location 40% of the time/2 days of the week. 
  • You will work Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day.
